A Place Made by Music is MICA’s submission to the America250MI History Grant, documenting the history, vision, and revitalization of Lansing’s Old Town community through the decades and the transformative role MICA has played in that story. The project brings together a series of historical posters, a commemorative book, and a documentary that explore MICA’s decades of work in creating spaces for art, music, performance, and community connection. From producing Michigan BluesFest, JazzFest Michigan, and FunkFest Michigan to programs such as Backstage Pass and opportunities for poetry, theater, dance, and visual art, MICA’s work has helped shape Old Town into a vibrant cultural destination. A Place Made by Music will preserve these stories, celebrate the artists and community members who helped build them, and share the vision and ongoing impact of MICA’s commitment to using the arts as a catalyst for community revitalization.
