Common Event Lighting Types

Understanding that there are different ways to light an event is one of the first steps in creating the appropriate atmosphere for your event. Lighting plays a critical role in how your event is perceived.

You may choose the one that best suits your event, but here are some of our most commonly used lighting types.

Ambient Lighting

Also known as General Lighting, ambient lighting is what illuminates the entire event.

Some examples are ceiling-mounted or recessed fixtures that direct light downwards; wall sconces that wash the walls with light, and valance lighting that bounces light off ceilings and walls.

Accent Lighting

A secondary form of lighting, it is used to highlight specific areas or features.

The bright lights create a focal point and can help you highlight specific elements of your event.

Some examples are single spotlights, wall sconces, recessed lights, or track lighting.

Task Lighting

This type of lighting is for helping guests perform specific tasks, such as reading menus or navigating through the venue.

It provides concentrated light in a particular area to aid in activities

Decorative Lighting

Decorative lighting is used to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your event.

They add a touch of magic and charm, contributing to the overall theme and atmosphere.
